The National Weather Service has put most Ohio counties under a winter storm watch. Expected snowfall totals through Wednesday range from up to six inches in Cincinnati to as much as a foot in Toledo, Cleveland and Youngstown.... |

Fans who want a drink of water can get a small cup free at Quicken Loans Arena concession counters or pay $4 for bottled water. Team spokesman Tad Carper says the fountains were removed in November. He says the team takes advice on such health matters from the National Basketball Association and the International Association of Assembly... |

2010-02-04
|
| The sister of a convenience store owner slain in a 1994 shooting says the execution of her brother's killer should serve as a lesson to young people about what not to do. Terri Rasul said Thursday that the lethal injection of Mark Brown brought justice for the death of her brother Isam Salman and called it a sad day. She watched the execution holding a photograph of a man and woman but declined to say who they were. The 37-year-old Brown was pronounced dead by lethal injection at 10:49... |

Ohio catching up on sending out state tax booklets
2010-02-03
|
| After a holdup caused by a budget battle, officials say most of this year's Ohio tax information booklets should be distributed by early next week. Printing of about 1.8 million booklets was slowed three weeks as the Ohio Legislature debated whether to put off a scheduled tax cut, a dispute that created uncertainty over the tax rates for 2009. In a December compromise, the Legislature finally agreed to the tax cut delay supported by Democrats and Governor Ted Strickland. Ohio Department... |

Investigator: Evidence shows Demjanjuk at Sobibor
2010-02-02
|
| A German investigator testifying at John Demjanjuk's trial says evidence links the former Ohio autoworker to the Nazis' Sobibor Nazi death camp. Thomas Walther, who led the investigation that prompted Germany to prosecute Demjanjuk, on Tuesday presented papers that Demjanjuk filled out for refugee and immigration purposes in the late 1940s and early 1950s in which he said he was a farmer in Sobibor, Poland. Walter says Demjanjuk later told investigators that he lied and chose a Polish... |

County's foreclosure filings soar to new heights
2010-02-02
|
| 2009 brought with it to Lorain County a new record high for mortgage foreclosure filings with 2,402. That tops the old mark set in 2007 by 148. And, it's 168 more filings than the county recorded in 2008. In fact, with the exception of 2008's decline of 18 from '07, every other year in the first decade of this century saw the county's foreclosure numbers grow. In 2000 the number of foreclosure filings was 778. Seems like a drop in the bucket today. |
